The upper deck awing folds down, the deck chairs lean against tables, and 3/4 of the bridge (not shown) disappears into the ship to clear bridges such as this one. Crew members patrol the deck to warn passengers to duck!
Francis Joseph I inaugurated the Liberty Bridge over the Danube in 1896, as part of the thousand-year jubilee of Hungary. János Feketeházy, chief engineer of the Hungarian Railroads, designed the Art Nouveau style structure.
Between 1873 and 1896 architect Frigyes Schulek led the restoration of the building in Neo-Gothic style.
